TOFRANIL® contains the active substance imipramine hydrochloride and belongs to a group of medicines knows as tricyclic antidepressant drugs used in in the treatment of depression mood disorders.

TOFRANIL® used in adults in the treatment of psychiatric (depressive phase of maniac depressive psychosis, masked depression, neurotic depression. depression in schizophrenic psychosis.), neurological and other diseases [ late onset of (involutional) depression, serious depressions in neurological diseases or other organic conditions] or in the treatment of various forms of depression during a triggering event (reactive depression).

Adults: Patients treated outpatient fashions: Treatment initiated with 25 mg 1-3 times daily and increase gradually up to 150-200 mg/day. This should be reached by the end of the first week and maintained until definite improvement has occurred. The maintenance dose should be individually determined by gradually reducing the dosage, usually to about 50-100mg daily. Patient treated in hospital: Treatment initiated with 25 mg 3 times daily and increase stepwise of 25 mg daily to 200 mg/day. This dosage should be maintained until a distinct clinical improvement is seen. In severe cases 300 mg/day in three separated administration can be given. The maintenance dose should be individually determined for each single patient, and it is usually of 100 mg/day.
