HEPA-MERZ® is a medicinal product prepared for intravenous administration, containing an active ingredient called L-ornithine L-aspartate. HEPA-MERZ® is a drug which removes ammonium by increasing urea and glutamine synthesis in the liver
HEPA-MERZ® is used in the treatment of loss of movement and mental function at different levels (latent and pronounced hepatic encephalopathy) caused by liver failure.
Unless otherwise recommended by the physician, it is used up to 4 ampoules a day. Depending on the severity of the patient’s condition, 8 ampoules can be given within 24 hours in cases of new onset of confusion (precoma) or confusion (coma). The contents of the ampoule are added to the infusion solution and given to the patient in this way. HEPA-MERZ® can be mixed easily into the infusion solutions normally used.
