Adults: In outpatients: Treatment is started with 25 mg 1-3 times daily and the daily dosage is gradually increased to 150-200 mg. This dosage should be reached by the end of the first week and should be used until significant improvement is achieved. The maintenance dose, which should be determined individually for each patient by carefully decreasing the dose, is usually between 50-100 mg per day.
In patients receiving treatment in hospital: Treatment is started with 25 mg three times daily. The dosage is increased by 25 mg each day until the daily dose reaches 200 mg, and this dosage is continued until the patient's condition improves. In severe cases, 300 mg per day may be given in three divided doses. The maintenance dose should be determined individually for each patient (usually 100 mg per day).
